The Syntax Of Hungarian Noun Phrases

by Tibor Laczkó, The Syntax Of Hungarian Noun Phrases Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Syntax Of Hungarian Noun Phrases books, The book offers a syntactic analysis of Hungarian noun phrases containing various types of argument-taking predicates within the theoretical framework of Lexical-Functional Grammar. It investigates the nature of the possessor grammatical function and proposes that it should be treated as semantically unrestricted. The book also explores the rules which determine the possible ways of realizing oblique arguments and adjuncts of derived nominals. In addition, it formulates a new account of the basic organizing principle of the use of certain participles in Hungarian noun phrases.

by Gábor Alberti, Syntax Of Hungarian Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Syntax Of Hungarian books, These books aim to present a synthesis of the currently available syntactic knowledge of the Hungarian language, rooted in theory but providing highly detailed descriptions, and intended to be of use to researchers, as well as advanced students of language and linguistics. As research in language leads to extensive changes in our understanding and representations of grammar, the Comprehensive Grammar Resources series intends to present the most current understanding of grammar and syntax as completely as possible in a way that will both speak to modern linguists and serve as a resource for the nonspecialist.

Noun Phrase Structure In The Languages Of Europe

by Frans Plank, Noun Phrase Structure In The Languages Of Europe Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Noun Phrase Structure In The Languages Of Europe books, The result of over five years of close collaboration among an international group of leading typologists within the EUROTYP program, this volume is about the morphology and syntax of the noun phrase. Particular attention is being paid to nominal inflectional categories and inflectional systems and to the syntax of determination, modification, and conjunction. Its areal focus, like that of other EUROTYP volumes, is on the languages of Europe; but in order to appreciate what is peculiarly European about their noun phrases, a more comprehensive and genuinely typological view is being taken at the full range of cross-linguistic variation within this structural domain. There has been no shortage lately of contributions to the theory of noun phrase structure; the present volume is, however, unique in the extent to which its theorizing is empirically grounded.

Nominalisierungen Und Argumentvererbung Im Deutschen Und Ungarischen

by Imre Szigeti, Nominalisierungen Und Argumentvererbung Im Deutschen Und Ungarischen Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.

Approaches To Hungarian

by Harry van der Hulst, Approaches To Hungarian Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Approaches To Hungarian books, This volume contains a selection of papers from the 12th International Conference on the Structure of Hungarian (Leiden, 2015). The contributions cover a wide range of topics and their significance in generative theorizing. The papers about morphosyntax focus on the formation of comparative clauses, the behavior of particle verbs, scope taking in deverbal nominal constructions, measure constructions, classifier constructions, the mass/count distinction as well as focus and quantifier scope. The papers about phonology investigate coexisting patterns of variation in vowel harmony, the representational account of vowel harmony and the nature of heteromorphemic vowel sequences. While the focus of the volume is on Hungarian, comparison is made with several other languages, such as English, German and Portuguese among others. The broad range of topics discussed in this volume will appeal both to scholars working on Hungarian and to a general audience of generative linguists.

Transitive Nouns And Adjectives

by John J. Lowe, Transitive Nouns And Adjectives Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Transitive Nouns And Adjectives books, This book explores the wealth of evidence from early Indo-Aryan for the existence of transitive nouns and adjectives, a rare linguistic phenomenon which, according to some categorizations of word classes, should not occur. John Lowe shows that most transitive nouns and adjectives attested in early Indo-Aryan cannot be analysed as a type of non-finite verb category, but must be acknowledged as a distinct constructional type. The volume provides a detailed introduction to transitivity (verbal and adpositional), the categories of agent and action noun, and to early Indo-Aryan. Four periods of early Indo-Aryan are selected for study: Rigvedic Sanskrit, the earliest Indo-Aryan; Vedic Prose, a slightly later form of Sanskrit; Epic Sanskrit, a form of Sanskrit close to the standardized 'Classical' Sanskrit; and Pali, the early Middle Indo-Aryan language of the Buddhist scriptures. John Lowe shows that while each linguistic stage is different, there are shared features of transitive nouns and adjectives which apply throughout the history of early Indo-Aryan. The data is set in the wider historical context, from Proto-Indo-European to Modern Indo-Aryan, and a formal linguistic analysis of transitive nouns and adjectives is provided in the framework of Lexical-Functional Grammar.
